She was once known as the “Most Popular Star”

Geena Davis’s rise to fame came with the comedy film Tootsie (1982) that put her on the map before taking on other significant roles in her career over the next decade including Beetlejuice and The Fly among others. The Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor has been awarded to his best-case scenario performance in *The Accidental Tourist.* Thelma Thelma (1991) was her hit film while A League of Their Own (1992) presented the character Dottie Hinson.

Still, among the other films which made less impact later in her career, Davis found solace in television. But Davis’ priorities are different now. The Geena Davis Institute for Gender in Media aimed at promoting women’s representations in film was founded by her back in October, 2004.

“I talked about it because I was fearful of how much people knew about my existence within Hollywood,” Davis said. The study done at her school showed that there were few girls.

Davis now continues to work in silence to create meaningful changes. “We go meet with every studio, every guild, every network, and every studio firm and share it with them,” she said because she considers that the best way to influence people is not by making public remarks about them.
