Challenging Beauty Standards: 31-Year-Old Educator Embraces Natural Look by Refusing Eyebrow Plucking and Mustache Waxing

A 31-year-old woman from Denmark chooses not to shave her mustache as a form of self-expression. Eldina Jaganjac, an educator based in Copenhagen, is growing increasingly discontented with societal expectations, especially those from men, regarding women’s grooming habits, specifically hair removal.

Edina cut her mustache in March 2020, at the age of 31, after discovering that she feels just as feminine with facial hair. Despite her lack of concern for her physical beauty, she accepts herself just as she is. Men had to say things like “think” to Edina. He even appeared to have a “third head” peering at him. In her opinion, facial hair keeps people away from her who she doesn’t want around.

Edina, conversely, feels that her unibrow and facial hair ward off “traditional” admirers, enabling her to connect with men who appreciate her for her character rather than her looks.

“Before I embraced my unibrow, I used to believe that women had limited choices in terms of their appearance. No one bats an eye or complains when a man doesn’t shave his beard. It’s seen as normal,” Eldina admitted in an interview with Unilad.

“Like many other women, I learned to be hard on myself. For instance, I wouldn’t leave the house if my eyebrows weren’t thin and neat, and I would avoid going to the gym if my legs weren’t waxed,” she continued.

“Now, I’ve decided to concentrate more on my responsibilities and objectives, and less on how I look while trying to achieve them. I’m not going to please everyone, and even if I did, it wouldn’t matter,” she further added.

“At first, it didn’t feel comfortable,” Eldina confessed, “but if people have nothing better to do than shout at strangers, then so be it.”
