Mom Responds to Criticism After Spending the Night in Daughter’s Dorm: ‘I’m Choosing to Focus on the Positive’ (Exclusive)

‘I wore my heart on my sleeve by posting that, hoping it would inspire them to do something similar,’ Lori Miggins says of the viral video.

When Lori Miggins found out that her daughter Taylor’s college move-in date was a week earlier than the rest of the students, including her roommate’s, due to Taylor’s involvement with the cheer team, she came up with the idea of having a sleepover in the dorm. Excited about the chance to spend extra time together before Taylor began college, Taylor eagerly agreed.

Lori, who is active on social media, filmed their overnight stay, which quickly went viral, racking up over 70,000 views and sparking debate about whether Lori’s actions were appropriate. With emotions running high as Lori prepared to drop off her oldest daughter at Appalachian State University, the move-in day also coincided with Lori’s birthday, adding a personal touch to the experience.

She discussed the idea with her husband, who agreed it was a great plan. “You’ll have more time to move furniture around and get everything settled, and I’ll see you the next day,” he said. So, Lori and Taylor went ahead with the plan.

Reflecting on the decision, Lori mentioned, “I thought, if you’re going to be alone, I can stay the night if you want.” After discussing it with Taylor’s roommate and the roommate’s parents, they were supportive and had no objections, so everything went ahead as planned.

Lori, an avid user of social media, captured the moment on camera while sleeping in her bedroom and posted a video on Instagram with her daughter’s support. To their surprise, the video went viral, garnering over 3 million views, 77,000 likes and sparking a debate in the media about Larry crossing the line.

“It’s funny because I shot that little report right before we went to bed thinking maybe one day I’ll do something,” he added. “Then I made a gel and it went crazy.”

“I wear my heart on my sleeve by posting this, and hope it helps someone else or inspires them to do the same,” he continued. “They just want to spend the night in their own home, in the children’s room, the night before they leave. You don’t have to be in a bedroom to experience that moment.”

“And I’m just bursting with bad emotions. People didn’t read what happened. They just jump to a decision, I focus on the good.”.

“It was great,” Lori said, looking back at the night she spent in bed. When they were growing up, he and Taylor went on lots of fun trips, so Sleepy thought they were back to work. The whole day was spent cleaning the room, doing chores to collect forgotten things, and enjoying dinner.

When they finished everything on the day of departure, the two were tired and went straight to bed. Taylor slept on her bed while Lori sat on her roommate’s bed across the room covered in sheets. The next day, the two spent the day walking around the campus and going to the cafeteria together before leaving.

Laurie remembers their bedtime story: “Then I told her, ‘You’ll probably remember this night for the rest of your life.’ We’re doing really well this season.” Only go to college once. You only get to meet once on your first date, and that’s fine.”.

Now on the other side of the story, Lori says no amount of advice can prepare a person for how hard it is to say goodbye to their child at college. Since giving up her daughter, Lori and Taylor have been talking and calling each other every day. Lori loves hearing about Taylor adjusting to college life and her new activities.

But even though Laurie still cherishes the dreams and memories of her daughter’s transition to college, there’s one thing she’s not ready for. “It didn’t work out very well because he brought all the sheets, pillows, and sheets for the rug that you were told to get, and I was on a sheet and a blanket on the bed. ,” Lori explained. “I say, oh, it’s bad. But it’s worth it.”.
