Paris 2024 unveils a redesigned Olympic medal following Huston’s comment that the bronze medal ‘like it went to war’

Olympic figure skater Naja Houston went from bronze medalist to bronze medalist in Paris.

The American won the bronze on July 29, but 10 days later he posted an Instagram story showing that the medal had shrunk badly and the surface looked dull and rusty.

“Okay, these Olympic medals look good when they’re new, but after I let them sit on my skin and get a little sweaty, my friends let me wear them in weekend, these medals look like they’re of higher quality than you think.” I mean, look at that thing, it’s rough.” way forward It starts to fall apart. “Well, I don’t know, Olympic medals, maybe the quality should be increased.”

In another post, Houston added: “This medal represents war and return.”.

The Paris 2024 medals will include a piece of the Eiffel Tower to represent the host city, but the medals look different between Olympics. Gold medals are mostly silver with gold plating. Bronze medals are a combination of copper, zinc and tin. If left unprotected, copper combines with oxygen in the air to form a dull patina, which explains the damage to the metal histone. The rate at which copper corrodes depends on the ratio of the metals in the alloy, although the lesser metals do so more quickly..

As with any alloy, moisture can cause corrosion. But alloy and cheap metals make the process faster, Neeraj Gupta, a sculptor, told The Indian Express.

A spokesperson for Paris 2024 told TIME that athletes will receive compensation for broken medals. “Paris 2024 is aware of a message on social media from an athlete that his medal was damaged a few days after it was awarded,” a spokesman said. “Paris 2024 is working closely with the Monnaie de Paris, the organization for the production and quality control of the medals, and the National Olympic Committee of the athlete concerned, to evaluate the medal so that to understand its nature and the cause of evil.

Houston, one of the most decorated skateboarders of all time, didn’t know much about bronze medals: He meant gold. The 29-year-old is a six-time world champion in street skateboarding and has won 12 gold medals at the Summer X Games..
