Let’s pause to wish Randy Travis a happy birthday and send prayers for his quick recovery. Randy Travis just turned 64

Randy Travis’ voice is one of the few that truly gives me the chills.

Sadly, he suffered from a stroke many years ago – but that didn’t stop him from giving a beautiful rendition of ”Amazing Grace” in honor of fellow country music star, George Jones.

Under the blue and purple stage lights at the Grand Ole Opry, the iconic performer paid tribute to the recently departed George Jones.

Travis shared the stage with fellow country stars Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, and Travis Tritt.

Mary, Travis’s wife, has openly discussed her husband’s challenging recovery from a stroke and expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his fans.

In July 2013, Randy Travis was rushed to a Dallas hospital due to complications from viral cardiomyopathy. He suffered a stroke, required brain surgery, and fell into a coma. The prognosis was bleak; medical experts estimated his chance of survival at only 1 or 2 percent.

Consequently, the medical team saw little reason to continue life-sustaining efforts.

When faced with the decision, Mary Davis Travis was asked directly by doctors what she wanted to do.

However, she chose to defy conventional wisdom. Instead of adhering to medical advice, she opted for a different path.

Although experts gave him minimal odds of survival, Mary believed in her husband’s resilience. To her, disconnecting the respirators was never an option.

“I prayed fervently, ‘God, please bring him back to me, in any way, shape, or form,'” she recalled, as reported by USA Today.

Randy remained in a coma, entangled in a bed of wires, but Mary never once considered switching his machines off – even though her husband was basically just skin and bones.

Then, one day, the miracle presented itself. Randy woke up.

“We’re blessed. We’re happy to be where we are. We don’t know what God has in store for us at the end of this recovery. Right now, we’re just thankful to be where we are, and we’re singing a different song,” she said. “We’re happy to serve a purpose wherever there is a purpose for us to serve. Of course, one day he would love to be back up on that stage. Right now, we’re just enjoying life, and are very blessed to be where we are.”

Randy has been wheelchair-bound since his stroke but is making progress, and he can walk shorter distances all by himself. He has also taken up music, and his love and affinity for music stand strong.

He learned to walk again, and in 2016, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

”Everyone who knows Randy knows he has had a colorful life. He’s had a tough life at times, but also a beautiful life,” his wife says.

If the below performance is any indication, Travis, who is still struggling with aphasia, has clearly been working and praying to get back to the level of talent he was at before.
