Disney Legend Passes Away At 95

Richard M. Sherman, renowned for his contributions to songs in films such as “Mary Poppins,” passed away at the age of 95 on Saturday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gluck, and their children, Gregory, Victoria, and Lynda.

A funeral is scheduled for May 31 at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California.

Sherman and his brother Robert B. Sherman received numerous awards, including two Oscars and three Grammy Awards. Disney CEO Bob Iger described Richard Sherman as the epitome of a Disney Legend.

Pete Docter from Pixar celebrated Sherman’s “infectious joy for life,” while film historian Leonard Maltin highlighted the Sherman brothers’ optimistic musical style, noting, “Their music reflected Richard’s positive outlook on life.”

Sherman’s career included scores for “Mary Poppins,” “The Jungle Book,” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” The Sherman brothers were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 and named Disney Legends in 1990.
